Salvia Divinorum Trip

About this site and who publishes it

Salvia Divinorum Trip is published by the team behind Avalon Magic Plants, a smartshop in the Netherlands that sells salvia leaves and extracts. The product links on this site go to that shop, and when you buy through one of them, the shop earns from the sale.

We put that first because it matters for how you read the rest. The site has one subject: what a salvia trip is like, from the inhale to the hour after. Most of what you find about that online is either a single dramatic story or a short official warning. We wanted to describe the whole range calmly, including the parts that do not help sales, such as the trips that go wrong and the people who should not use salvia at all.

How the trip reports are made

Every trip report on this site is a composite, and labelled as one. We read published experience reports and the participant descriptions from laboratory studies, noted which elements recur (the pull, the split, becoming an object, the familiar place, the presences, the laughter, the effortful return) and wrote short accounts that show those patterns at a given strength or around a given theme. None of them is one person's trip. We do not invent names, ages, places, reviews or testimonials.

Where the facts come from

  • Timings and effects come from placebo-controlled studies at Johns Hopkins University, in Connecticut and in Barcelona, from surveys of salvia users, and from public health sources such as the Trimbos Institute, FRANK, the Alcohol and Drug Foundation and the DEA. Each page links to the sources it uses.
  • Quotes in quotation marks are from study participants as published by the researchers.
  • Product information is the shop's own description, presented as such.
  • Legal information comes from the law texts or official sources, with the date on which it was checked.
  • When we could not confirm something in a reliable source, we left it out.
  • We make no medical or health claims of any kind.

Every page shows when it was last updated. If something here is out of date or wrong, Avalon's customer service can pass it on to us.

About the shop

Avalon Magic Plants ships from the Netherlands and sells only to adults. Selling salvia is legal in the Netherlands; buying, owning or importing it is not legal everywhere. The strength guide lists the law in several countries.
